Selma school superintendent announces sudden retirement
From the West Alabama News–
The superintendent of Selma City Schools suddenly announces his retirement — just as the new school year is set to start.
Dr. Zickeyous Byrd is set to retire at the end of September — after only two years of leading the Selma City School district.
“I’ve always been taught to leave a place better than you found,” said Byrd.
“Our test scores are on the rise, our students are growing academically. We’ve been able to renovate facilities, we’ve been able to increase safety and security. We’ve been transparent with our communities. And so I’m definitely thankful for the achievements that we’ve been able to make.”
“Dr. Byrd has done a tremendous job with Selma City Schools. He’s left us in a good place. So, the next superintendent who comes on will find a very thriving system,” said school board president Johnny Moss III.
Moss says the board will begin searching for an interim superintendent.
Then schedule a search for a new superintendent — at its next meeting later this month.
The first day of school at Selma City Schools is August 12th.
