A Montgomery man is turning 100 years old, with family, friends and church members gathering for a big birthday party.

Friday, a party was held at Country Cottage to honor Henry McInnis. He was surprised to see so many people wanting to help him celebrate his big day.

McInnis was born August 3, 1924, in Peterman, which is in Monroe County.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, when he was 18. That was during World War II.

McInnis was married and had a son. His wife passed away in 2000, and his son in 2016.

McInnis worked for 40 years at the Social Security office in Montgomery.

“You all are true Christians and you love your brothers and sisters, and I do thank you so much for coming out and I’m so glad that I was able to be with you,” McInnis told the crowd.

He’s been a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church for more than 50 years where he taught Sunday School up until September 2023. He was living alone and still driving up until November 2023, when he moved to Country Cottage.

All of us at Action 8 News wish him the happiest of birthdays!
