A Selma businessman hands out over $10,000 dollars in cash Friday to teachers in Dallas County.
For the past several years — KFC owner Mark Woodson has given away cash to area teachers at the start of each new school year.
Woodson raised $11,000 dollars this year.
He gave 110 teachers $100 dollars each — to help them get their classrooms ready — for the new school year.
“This started out just being a advertising gimmick. It did. I was just trying to sell some chicken legs,” said Woodson.
“But then after the first time I saw how much impact it had, and I was able to help the teachers, and how much a teacher can stretch a hundred dollars, and how much stuff they can get with a hundred dollars, it really, it was a big deal for me.”
Teachers who received the cash were chosen randomly — from a list of teachers who were nominated by people on Facebook.
