ACTION 8 UPDATE: Reward now $5,000 in case of 16-year-old gunned down in Prattville
ACTION 8 UPDATE: The reward is now $5,000 for information that solves the killing of a 16-year-old in Prattville one year ago.
As Action 8 News has reported, 16-year-old Kylen Smith was found shot at about 2PM on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in the 600 block of Covered Bridge Parkway. Police say he was found lying in the road, and despite efforts at saving his life, he died on the scene.
Police say a witness on the scene said a male was spotted in all black, wearing a black hoodie. Investigators believe the male left the scene on foot and was not in a vehicle.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random violent act and think Smith may have known or been associated with the shooter.
Police say Smith’s family is heartbroken as they approach an entire year without their loved one. They are seeking answers and ask for anyone with information to please come forward.
The reward for information that leads to an arrest has been increased. Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has raised its amount from $1,000 to $4,000, and Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie and his family are offering $1,000.
