Faulkner football aims to use speed to bounce back
Today, fall camps continue across the country, including in Montgomery. This morning the Faulkner football team hit the gridiron, looking to bounce back from a 2-8 season.
Faulkner Eagles head coach Rob Gray said the team battled a lot of adversity last year with injuries. But as he goes into his fourth year, he’s hungry for more.
There are several priorities: determine the starting quarterback and use all the speed on the Faulkner football roster.
“We have La’Derrick Bell,” Gray said. “He’s a receiver for us. A really, really, really speedy guy. Probably the fastest person on our team,” Gray said. “But collectively, defensively, we’re really fast at every position. Same with offense, outside of the offensive line.”
Bell played at Jacksonville State in 2021 and 2022. Now the Anniston native is enjoying being back on the football field.
“It’s amazing, just getting the chance to get back out here and get with my guys and see the energy,” he said. “I love the energy out here, coming from Jax State and coming down here. The energy is just of a family. I just love it.”
