Last year in head coach Granger Shook’s first year with the Patriots, he led them to an 11-3 season and a trip to the semi finals of the playoffs. This season, Shook and the Patriots look to build off of last season’s success.
This year according to Shook the mantra of this Pike Road team will be “connection over perfection.”
“You know last year was a different team, we had some success last year, but this year’s team I want them to have a different identity and not really focus on the end result, just really growing closer together as a group. And so, our mantra connection over perfection couldn’t be more fitting for us,” explains Shook.
The Patriots return several leaders on the offensive side of the ball including their sophomore quarterback Cason Myers who brings lots of valuable experience.
“I think I’ve definitely grown as a leader and then I think everybody’s grown as a leader. I really believe the leadership is better now than it was last year,” says Myers.
But the quarterback position isn’t the only area on offensive that returns talent there are several veteran leaders on the offensive line, such as senior Terrion Bell, as well as in the running back room with junior Ja’Michel Jones.
“Try to play fast. I think when we play fast advantage is in our favor,” explains Shook.
And while there are a lot of veterans returning on the offensive side of the ball, Shook explains that on the defense they still need to see who will step up as leaders.
“I think there’s a lot of good athletes on that side of the ball, but leadership and making those guys get out of there comfort zone this year is going to be something that we as a staff have got to do,” says Shook.
The Patriots kick off the 2024-25 on August 22nd on the road at Prattville.
