High School Football Previews: Lowndes Academy

The Lowndes Academy Rebels look to go back-to-back-to-back-to-back as state championship this season. And while the Rebels will have to replace some of the talent from that group that played a big role in helping win those three state titles, head coach Shane Moye believes that the success his program has seen is bigger than just one group of players.
“You know we’re just hoping that the leadership from three years ago has just followed down to each class. Last year we lost a lot of seniors that were a part of all three state titles, but these kids have worked hard and their goal is to win and show they can win without who they lost and they’ve done a good job at working towards that,” explains Moye.
And while some might feel intimidated by having to follow up that senior class, this senior class doesn’t they are just excited to show that they too can carry the torch that was passed down to them.
“It’s definitely big shoes to fill, but I feel like we’ve got the people to do it and we’re excited to see what we can do this year,” explains senior offensive/ defensive lineman Reid Owen.
One area though that the Rebels will return a lot of experience is on both their offensive and defensive lines.
“They really have shown a lot of toughness and we’re going to rely on them to be able to control the line of scrimmage,” says Moye.
Senior Defensive Lineman and Offensive Lineman Zack Azar was not only a part of the last three football state championships, but also last year’s baseball state championship. Azar hoping to bring home another state championship to Lowndes Academy this football season to add a fifth state championship ring to his collection.
“It feels great, not many people have that chance in their lifetime,” says Azar.
The Rebels will kickoff their 2024 season at home against Southern Academy.
