Autauga County Commission awards bid to clean jail

The Autauga County Commission has awarded a contract for the remediation and cleaning of the jail.

County Administrator Scott Kramer tells Action 8 News that the County Commission approved on Tuesday the lowest responsible bidder, Stallings & Son, in the amount of $575,516.

Kramer says the scope of the project includes removing the lay-in and hard ceilings, removing commercial diffusers and flex duct drops back to the main trunk duct, remove all existing pipe insulation from pipe, wipe down and clean all hard surfaces, and the disposal of materials in compliance with environmental guidance and requirements.

As Action 8 News has reported, Sheriff Mark Harrell evacuated the jail on June 6 due to health and safety issues, sending inmates to be housed in other facilities.

No word on when the facility is expected to be fully operational.
