The Alabama Christian Academy Eagles look to build off of their 6-5 season from a year ago. Head Coach of the Eagles Michael Summers expresses that last year was a “rebuilding year” for his team, but he’s really seen them through the offseason begin to come into their own.
“We were a true rebuild last year if there was one, and learning from that group, you know they controlled what they could control. They knew going in we didn’t quite have the horses, but they practiced really hard everyday. I think we had less than a handful of bad practices all year. So, taking what they learned from last year’s seniors, controlling what they could, how they approach everyday, competing against themselves, and seeing them take that and learn from it I think has been the biggest area of growth,” says Summers.
One player in-particular that Summers says he has seen grow a lot since the conclusion of last season is quarterback Christian Snipes who switched mid season last year to quarterback from the defensive line.
“He had the command of the huddle. You know physically he wasn’t a quarterback last year but he did some quarterback things but you know that wasn’t his base. But the work that he’s put in over the offseason, he’s throwing a really good deep ball, he’s going through progressions really well, so he’s grown from a d-lineman to a quarterback for sure,” explains Summer.
Senior Center Conner Foucault, feels that this year team is unified and has really gelled throughout summer workouts.
“We just have a different fire in us. Just the way we come out when we practice and the way we get in the weight room and condition. I also feel like we have a lot of chemistry this year, and I feel like we have a better chance to get the ball to our playmakers this year and let them do good things,” explains Foucault.
The Eagles kickoff their 2024 season on August 23rd at home against Escambia County.
