ACTION 8 UPDATE: Auburn man to stand trial in 20-year-old cold case
ACTION 8 UPDATE: A man is about to stand trial in Lee County in what had been a 20-year-old cold case.
76-year-old Bobby Pitts of Auburn is scheduled to go to trial on September 9. He was arrested in April, charged with kidnapping, rape and sodomy.
As Action 8 News has reported, the case dates back to October 2003, when a girl told police that she was sexually assaulted several times in some woods off Lee County Road 57.
It wasn’t until early this year that cold case investigators used DNA evidence to pinpoint Pitts as the suspect.
He pleaded not guilty last month and is being held on $210,000 bond.
