Man dies, woman seriously hurt in Auburn house fire
A fire in Auburn has left a man dead and a woman seriously hurt.
The fire happened late last night at a home in the 700 block of Stubb Avenue. That’s near Alabama Highway 14, north of the Auburn University campus.
Firefighters say there was heavy smoke and flames when they arrived.
They found the man and woman unconscious inside.
The man, identified as 61-year-old Luke Welcher, was pronounced dead at East Alabama Medical Center.
The 60-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where she is in serious condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
