After boasting an 8-3 record in 2023, the Panthers are on the hunt for another winning season in 2024.
Head Coach of the Panthers, Kyle Caldwell, returns for his third year at the helm for the Panthers and explains the big emphasis for his team this offseason was strength and conditioning because some members of his team will be needing to play both ways this fall.
“Making sure everybody is prepared for that offensively, defensively, and also scheme wise, but also body conditioning,” explains Caldwell.
This season Elmore County will return lots of experience on the defensive side of the ball, but then on the offensive side of the ball Caldwell explains that there is going to be quite a few holes to fill.
One of those key positions that they Panthers will have to fill is going to be the quarterback spot. Caleb Spivey will take over the position this fall. But in addition to playing quarterback, Spivey also plays on the defense. Caldwell explains that one of the areas he’ll have to focus on this season as a coach is managing Spivey’s snaps on both sides of the ball.
“He plays defense as well, so trying to manage his defensive snaps and offensive snaps and manage the game from a coaching standpoint,” says Caldwell.
And while they might be needing to replace some of the talent from last year’s team, senior running back Parker Hobbs feels that the chemistry of this year’s team is what is going to make them successful.
“We’ve really come together this summer and I think it’s going to be a big part of us winning,” says Hobbs.
The Panthers kick off their 2024 season on the road at Dadeville on Friday, August 23rd.
