After a winless season in 2023, the Jaguars hope to get things back on the right track with the addition of their new head coach Roy Upchurch.

Before making the move to JAG, Upchurch coached at Dora High School. Upchurch also a former Alabama running back from 2006-2011, and is hoping to bring some of the things he learned in Tuscaloosa during this playing days to the program at JAG.

“I was a hard nose player and I plan on bringing hard nose coaching, structure, and just holding kids accountable as men,” explains Upchurch.

JAG quarterback, Ja’Michael Harris, excited for not only what Upchurch has brought to the program so far and is going to continue to bring, but also to have a former member of the Crimson Tide as his head coach.

“He’s a cool coach, and I saw him and couldn’t believe I saw him because I watched some old film from Alabama and he was right there in my school,” says Harris.

This year’s JAG team looking to right the wrongs from last season and make a statement in 2024.

“We’re better mentally, and we’re going to be better by getting out there and showing what we can do. All the nerves are gone from last year,” explains senior linebacker Eric Watson.

“We really have to rewrite a narrative of an unsuccessful season last year, but I think we’re just really in the mindset of we’re battle tested and if we continue to remain battle tested throughout the year I think we can go far,” says Upchurch.

The Jaguars kick off their 2024 season on Friday, August 23rd on the road at Hewitt-Trussville.
