After winning the 4A State Title a year ago, the Knights are on the hunt for another state championship ring this year. Head Coach of the Knights, Kirk Johnson, believes that they have the tools once again to make it back there.

The Knights return several starters from last year’s team, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

“We have eight, maybe nine, out of eleven guys returning so that team chemistry and bond is already established,” says senior defensive back Rickie Williams.

But while they might return on a lot of talent, they do have to fill one big hole at quarterback left by Caleb McCreary who is now at Troy. Taking over the position this year for Catholic is Kingston Preyear.

“We need Kingston to be himself. The issue will become if Kingston tries to be Caleb. Kingston is an uber talented kid, high upside, he’s going to be on a lot of people’s recruiting boards. But, he has to go be himself. He has to make the plays that he’s accustom to making and be himself, and if he does that the quarterback after him we’ll be saying what does it take to be Kingston Preyear,” explains Johnson.

The Knights get their 2024 season underway on Friday, August 23rd on the road at St. James.
