The Wetumpka Indians are coming off a 5-6 season from a year ago and are looking to best that this year.

The Indians will be down starting quarterback from last season, Nate Rogers, and senior Tyler Johnson looks to take over the role. Offensive Coordinator Quaylan Moncrief has been very impressed from what he’s seen out of Johnson so far when it comes to accuracy and arm strength.

“Very good player, his arm strength is that of a third year college player. He can sling the ball about 65 yards, I’ve seen him do it multiple times, and his pinpoint accuracy. I think it’s going to be very important for him to get off every game to a good start and get comfortable with some warmup throws. The more he warms up the better he plays,” explains Moncrief.

This will be Moncrief’s first season with the Indians. Both Moncrief and Johnson describe the style of the Wetumpka Offense this year as gritty.

“We’re going to be a gritty football team, chippy, we’re going to run the ball well, we really want to control the flow and the style of the game, and if we want to speed it up, we will speed it up,” explains Moncrief.

“We bring a strong brotherhood, we love playing together, and we have a bunch of grit when we get on that field. We won’t quit,” says Johnson.

The Indians get the 2024 season underway on Friday, August 23rd at home against Beauregard.
