Several key issues to go before Montgomery City Council Tuesday
The Montgomery City Council is expected to take up several key issues at its meeting this week.
One of those issues is to decide whether the city should repeal the legislation that created the City and County Personnel Board and in return, create the city’s own personnel board. The move would allow the city to create its own Human Resources department.
The Committee of the Whole met Monday at city hall to discuss the proposed resolution sponsored by Councilor C.C. Calhoun.
The resolution came up at the last meeting, but was tabled for further discussion.
If passed, the resolution would have to go to the Alabama Legislature for final approval.
Another issue is concerning what the mayor can and cannot do concerning city contracts.
City Councilor Andrew Szymanski is presenting the resolution that says the mayor can only execute aggregate contracts of $25,000 or less without council review and approval.
The resolution states the requirements would run through September 2025.
The city council meeting gets underway at 5 p.m.
