Troy Police Chief Randall Barr announces retirement

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr has announced his retirement after 33 years working for the department.

In a letter to the mayor, the city council and the people of Troy, Barr said that his retirement will be effective on September 30.

In the letter, Barr recalls the start of his law enforcement career in 1989 at Troy State University. He joined the Troy Police Department two years later.

Barr rose through the ranks and became chief in 2015.

“When I tell you it has been my honor, I mean that whole heartedly. The last nine years serving as the chief of police for this great city have been the highlight of my career. I have been given opportunities that I never dreamed for myself, but God made a way for me to experience this incredible journey,” Barr said in his letter.
