A Return To Hot & Humid Conditions
This week is looking hot with a return of higher humidity levels. You will begin to notice it as temps climb into the mid to upper 90s and heat indices reach 100 to 105. It’s basically hot and humid conditions typical for late August.
The driving force controlling our weather is a ridge of high pressure. It’s providing a dry northeast to easterly wind flow into the area. As the week progresses, our winds shift towards the southeast and that helps transport more moisture back into the area. This will be the fuel for isolated showers and t-storms over the next few days. A southerly component to the wind will develop and increase moisture late week and over the long holiday weekend. A frontal system will dip southward into the state as well. As a result, scattered shower and t-storm coverage will expand and could have some impact on your outdoor plans. Where rain activity doesn’t occur, you can expect hot and humid conditions. Temps will manage mid to upper 90s for highs. Heat indices will hover between 100 to 105.
Down at the coast, we don’t see any tropical issues developing in the gulf through the weekend. It’s looking like scattered showers and t-storms during the afternoon hours. Temps will topout in the lower 90s. Gulf water temps are sitting in the mid 80s.
