A death investigation is underway in Selma — following shootings Monday morning — in Selma and Perry County.
Interim Assistant Police Chief Johnathan Cole says a 36 year old female victim is in critical condition after a shooting on the 1000 block of County Road 44.
Cole says suspected shooter 37 year old Raymon Averett — fled the scene after the incident. He was later found dead in Perry County — the victim of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“They were at some point in a relationship. But it is unclear if they were currently in a relationship,” Cole said.
The case remains under investigation.
