Students, teachers and staff at Selma High School are mourning the death of a 16-year-old sophomore.

Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd announced the death of Au’Terrious Walter on social media. Byrd said Walter died Friday night. He didn’t provide other details.

“This young man displayed so much potential and his absence leaves a void that will be felt by many,” Byrd said.

“His loss is a profound tragedy to this entire school community. Counseling services will be available for students who require assistance in processing their grief. It is vital that we unite and support each other during the difficult time.”

Byrd urged everyone to respect the family’s privacy and to allow them the space to mourn. He encouraged everyone to keep Walter’s spirit alive in their hearts.
