More Scorching Summer Heat Ahead

The heat continues to build across the region and it’s looking like a hot and humid Labor Day holiday period. Humidity levels will be on the rise and you will notice it as temps climb into the mid to upper 90s.  We expect heat indices to reach 100 to 105.  It’s basically hot and humid conditions typical for late August.  Fortunately, there’s some heat relief ahead as a frontal system moves into the area early next week.  Our rain chances will increase and that will help combat the heat.

For now, the driving force controlling our weather is a ridge of high pressure.  It’s lining up a southeasterly wind flow and that helps transport moisture into the area.  This will be the fuel for isolated showers and t-storms over the next several days.   A frontal system will dip southward into the state as well. As a result, scattered shower and t-storm coverage will expand and could have some impact on your outdoor plans, especially Monday. Where rain activity doesn’t occur, you can expect hot and humid conditions. Temps will manage mid to upper 90s for highs.  Heat indices will  hover between 100 to 105.

Down at the coast, we don’t see any tropical issues developing in the gulf through the weekend.  It’s looking like scattered showers and t-storms during the afternoon hours.  Temps will topout in the lower 90s.  Gulf water temps are sitting in the mid 80s.
