Busted water main leaves Selma elementary school without water

A busted water main leads to an extra-long Labor Day weekend — for students at a Selma elementary school.

Waka Scswater0830 VoLow water pressure at Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School — forced school officials to make several adjustments to try and get through the day.

Staff prepared lunch off site — and brought it back — for students who remained at school.

However — most of the school’s 310 students — were checked out early by their parents.

“The repair crews are out today. Hopefully, they will be able to make the repairs to the system. If not, then of course we still have time to make adjustments over this long weekend,” said Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd.

Byrd says the district has also brought in water — to use at the school — if needed.
