Autauga County voters to consider tax increase for schools
Voters in Autauga County will soon decide whether to raise the property tax to help their school system.
Leaders of the school system joined others on Friday to launch a campaign in support of the tax increase.
The proposed 7-mil tax would collect an additional $7 million each year if voters give their approval. The measure will be on the General Election ballot on November 5.
Supporters say the increase would give school leaders greater flexibility beyond the state-mandated minimum tax collection in order to make improvements throughout the school district.
“The needs have increased. The costs have increased. The funding has not. There’s got to be a balance, so when you looking at that dilemma, what do you do, and that’s where we’re at. We’re okay this year, we’re okay next year. 2026-27, there are major major problems coming. How do we solve those problems?” Autauga County School Superintendent Lyman Woodfin said.
Autauga County Schools has 15 schools in the system.
