Prattville Fire Chief Terry Brown honored as he enters retirement
The Prattville Fire Department held a surprise ceremony at Station 4 on Friday to dedicate the station to Fire Chief Terry Brown, who is retiring after 37 years.
The unveiling of the plaque at Fire Station 4 was performed by Chief Brown and his family. Brown was also given a proclamation by Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie.
Chief Brown began his career with the Prattville Fire Department on February 9, 1987, as as firefighter. He has risen through the ranks, becoming chief in 2011.
Brown says he’s going to miss being at the department, but he says he knows that he has left the Prattville Fire Department in better shape to serve its citizens.
“When I took the chief job, and I’m very grateful mayor Gillespie appointed me, because I love the department. I asked God for two things — one, to help me to get this equipment and training to protect these people, and two, that this job would not ruin my witness. So I thank Him for answering the prayer.”
Brown said in his retirement, it will allow him to spend more time with family and friends.
