Gee’s Bend prepares for annual Airing of the Quilts Festival

Preparations are underway for the annual celebration that showcases Wilcox County’s — Gee’s Bend community — and the artform that made the area famous.
The folks in Gee’s Bend are getting ready to host the 3rd Annual Airing-of-the-Quilts-Festival.
Quilt making is an artform that’s been sown into the fabric of the Gee’s Bend community.
Today — the community is known nationwide for its talent and contribution to American art.
“We’re offering sewing classes. Quilts of all kinds, types, sizes. All the way from pot holders and bags, all the way up to king size quilts,” said Gee’s Bend quilter Mary Margaret Pettway.
The Airing of the Quilts Festival is Saturday, October 12th — from 9 am to 5 pm.
The event will feature quilt making displays and sales — workshops — guided tours — food — music — and more.
