Francine Bringing Gusty Winds, Heavy Rainfall, And A Tornado Threat Our Way!
Our weather is looking very active Thursday through Friday. We’re expecting several impacts from Francine to move through our area. Rain and gusty winds are likely and there could be a few tornadoes as well. This is something we will be monitoring and everyone will need to stay weather aware.
In the meantime, we’re seeing the rain coverage increasing across the area tonight. Light to moderate rainfall is expected with periods of heavier downpours at times. The winds will be sustained at 8-16 mph with gust up to 30 mph. The severe storm threat will be mainly across southwest Alabama.
Impacts from Francine will spread areawide Thursday. The center of the tropical circulation will be west of us in Mississippi but that puts us on the eastern side of the track and the area favorable for strong to severe storms. We expect wind gust to reach 30-40 mph. Rainfall amounts between 2 to 4 inches and possibly higher in spots. We will also have the potential for some quick spin up tornadoes embedded in tropical bands swinging across the area.
The tropical system will be north of us Friday but the circulation around it will send additional rain and storm activity our way. We could have a few strong to possibly severe storms work through our area Friday afternoon and continue into the evening hours. This threat could impact some Friday night football games in east Alabama.
We settle back into a quieter weather pattern over the upcoming weekend. There will be some sunshine around along with a isolated showers or possibly t-storms. Temps will reach the mid to upper 80s for highs and overnight lows in the upper 60s.
