Troy man arrested on drug-related charges

Troy man was arrested on serious drug-related charges.

The arrest occurred on Thursday around 2:30 p.m. when officers conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Lake Avenue.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected the odor of marijuana, prompting a search.

During the search, officers found cocaine, opium and marijuana inside the vehicle.

The driver, 44-year-old Murrell Sheffield, was taken into custody for trafficking cocaine and opium, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, first degree possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Sheffield is currently in the Pike County Jail on a $230,000 bond.
