HURRICANE HELENE: Livestock shelters open in Montgomery, Troy
Livestock shelters have been opened in Montgomery and Troy for livestock, including horses and cattle, being evacuated before Hurricane Helene hits the Gulf Coast.
The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries says it’s been in contact with its partners to provide temporary sheltering facilities. Animals moving in response to Hurricane Helene will be exempt from a certificate of veterinary inspection.
Garrett Coliseum, located at 1295 Coliseum Boulevard in Montgomery is open now and will be taking in horses only. Please note to use the Coliseum Boulevard entrance into the sheltering facility. Campground facilities are not available at this time.
These shelters are only equipped to shelter livestock, not pets or companion animals such as dogs or cats. These facilities will be available at a first come, first served basis.
