Showers, storms Wednesday; Rain, wind due to Helene Thursday

Numerous to widespread showers and storms continue Wednesday afternoon. A few storms may become strong to severe, capable of damaging wind gusts or perhaps a brief tornado. Be weather aware through Wednesday afternoon. The severe risk winds down Wednesday evening and night. Although, rain and some storms continue. Temperatures may only reach the low 80s Wednesday due to clouds and rain, Wednesday night lows settle near 70°.

Rain and wind due to now Hurricane Helene arrive late Thursday. A tropical storm warning includes Macon, Bullock, and Pike counties in our area. Wind gusts could be near or over 40 mph here, especially Thursday night. A flood watch includes east Alabama, generally near and east of I-65 through Friday morning. Several inches of rain through the end of the week may cause flash flooding.

The remnants of Helen pull north away from our area Friday. Our weather trends drier and sunnier. Although, winds may remain somewhat brisk. Isolated showers remain possible Friday through the weekend. Temperatures trend warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Next week begins mainly dry, with a mostly sunny sky and no rain Wednesday.
