Cops ‘N Kids brings families out to Village Green Park in Millbrook
Some local youngsters had the chance to hang out with Millbrook police officers and firefighters at Village Green Park on Saturday. The 14th annual Cops ‘n Kids Day was geared toward children ages 3 to 15 years old. The first 1000 children received t-shirts, and they were able to get up close and climb around on police vehicles and fire trucks. Free food was provided and there were many activities and games to play as well. There was also a static display, plus K-9 demonstrations too.
The event was a great way for people in the community to meet their public servants in a relaxed and fun environment. Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said, “Alabama is the football state. You either holler Roll Tide or War Eagle. We don’t want our children to be at Bryant-Denny Stadium at an Alabama game or Jordan-Hare Stadium at an Auburn game, get lost in a crowd of 100,000 people, and be afraid to approach a police officer. Nobody wants that. We are about building relationships with our community, and what better place to start than with our children, and that’s what the day is all about. Besides, Millbrook is a great city to live in and a place to raise your children. What we want them to take away today (is that) police officers, firefighters and public servants, we are moms and dads. We are people, and we want them to understand that that the only difference between us and their mom and dad is that we just have different jobs.”
The next big event for the Millbrook Police Department is Operation Blue Santa which raises money to buy Christmas gifts for less fortunate children in the community.
