Woman sentenced in shooting at Montgomery Walmart
A judge has sentenced a woman for her role in a shooting at a Walmart in East Montgomery.
District Attorney said Judge J.R. Gaines sentenced Tytierra Foster to five years in prison for shooting an unarmed woman in parking lot of the department store on Chantilly Parkway.
The shooting happened around 4:20 p.m. on January 19, 2022. Officials say Foster and the victim were engaged in an argument that escalated into a shoving match.
After the physical altercation was over, Foster pulled a gun and shot the victim once in the chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital with a collapsed lung but survived.
“While I respect Judge Gaines’ role in the criminal justice system, I do not agree with this sentence,” said District Attorney Bailey. “I have consistently promised this community that my office will always seek the maximum sentence in cases of violent crime. We did that in this case and recommended that Judge Gaines impose the maximum sentence. He rejected that recommendation and instead decided that this violent criminal will be back on our streets after only five years. I believe that citizens should be able to go to Walmart without fear of being shot. My office will continue to aggressively prosecute cases of violent crime and advocate for our judges to impose the maximum possible sentences.”
Foster pled guilty to first-degree assault and was sentenced this week by Judge J.R. Gaines to serve five years in prison before she is released on probation. She will also get credit for time served.
