Pilot Club of Prattville makes a very brainy donation to help bikers travel safely in the community
The Pilot Club of Prattville is making a very brainy donation that will help bikers travel safely in the community. The Pilot Club received a grant from Pilot International, and those funds were used to purchase 50 bicycle helmets. The helmets were donated to the Montgomery Bicycle Club today at their regular meeting. The Montgomery Bicycle Club refurbishes and rehomes bicycles. Now people who receive the refurbished bikes will receive a new helmet to go with it. The Pilot Club is part of an international service organization whose mission is to protect the human brain.
Janice Clark is the President of the Pilot Club of Prattville and says, “We want them to know to wear helmets not only when they’re riding bikes, but when they’re skateboarding or skating or on anything that’s motorized basically. So definitely wear that helmet, we’re called the helmet people.”
Robert Traphan is the President of the Montgomery Bicycle Club and says, “It’s big for us. We run a community outreach program where people will donate unwanted bikes to us. We repair them, make sure that they’re functional and safe, and then we make them available for free adoption. When someone adopts a bike from us, we always make sure that they have a helmet to go along with that bike, and so having helmets as part of our community outreach program ensures that when we do adopt out a bicycle, we can also provide that helmet as a safety item to go along with the bicycle.”
Pilot Club of Prattville is part of an international service organization – Pilot International: The Helmet People. “Protecting your Brain for Life” is part of the Pilot Mission. They host educational and prevention activities all year round. They plan to work with the MBC on a bicycle rodeo in the spring of 2025 to educate children on bike safety, and they hope to provide helmets again. The Pilot Club also prevented a check to Alabama District of Pilot International to help sponsor a camper at the district’s annual Traumatic Brain Injury camp.
