A Montgomery man who pled guilty to shooting an Alabama corrections officers will spend two decades in prison.

Charles Green Hall, Jr. was sentenced to 20 years in prison by specially assigned visiting Judge Marvin Wiggins after pleading guilty to first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey said Hall knew the victim from serving time in the Alabama Department of Corrections.

On March 4, 2023, both men were inside a Montgomery business where Hall began an argument and threatened to kill the victim. As the victim was attempting to leave, Hall followed him to his car and escalated the verbal altercation into a physical fight before pulling a firearm and shooting him at close range.

“Law enforcement officers do one of the most dangerous jobs in the world so the rest of us can feel safe,” said Bailey. “This applies especially to jail and prison guards who encounter our most violent offenders daily. This victim did nothing wrong, but this dangerous criminal attacked him because of his work as a prison guard. Violence of any kind has no place in our community, and I am proud that my office worked to bring justice to this victim. I want to thank Judge Wiggins for this sentence and for helping me send the message that if you commit violent crime in Montgomery County then you are going to prison for a long time.”
