Woman dies, toddler injured after being hit by a car in Lee County
A single-vehicle crash involving two pedestrians in Lee County has claimed the life of a Cusseta woman.
The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. Sunday on Lee County 270 near Lee County 263, approximately 11 miles northeast of Opelika.
Troopers say 59-year-old Tonya Moore, who was one of the pedestrians was critically injured when the 2016 Dodge Journey, driven by 35-year-old Justin McCain, of Fort Mitchell, struck Moore while attempting to cross the road.
Moore was taken to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika where she later died.
Troopers say Moore was holding a two-year-old child at the time of the crash. The child was also injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the accident.
