MPS’s Interim Superintendent and Interim CSFO voted in by Montgomery County BOE

Two new people will be at the helm of the Montgomery Public School system while the Montgomery County Board of Education looks for permanent replacements for the superintendent and the CSFO. It has been just a few weeks since Dr. Melvin Brown resigned as Superintendent of MPS, but the Montgomery County Board of Education didn’t waste any time, and Tuesday evening they voted in Dr. Brown’s Chief of Staff Jamie Wilson as the Interim Superintendent.

In addition to her duties as Chief of Staff, Jamie Wilson has also been in charge of the Department of Leadership at MPS. Prior to becoming Chief of Staff, Wilson served as Director of Human Resources in Reynoldsburg City Schools and was an educator for 18 years. When asked if she would like to be considered for the superintendent’s role permanently, Wilson said she is focused on the task at hand.

Her duties officially start on October 30. “Right now priorities are to make sure we have stability within the district, that our students feel safe to come to school, that our teachers and our staff feel supported and so that’s my first priority. We want to continue on. We already have goals set, we have expectations, not only from the staff, but from our students and so as of today those are the first things that we are going to be doing moving forward,” said MPS Interim Superintendent Jamie Wilson.

MCBOE President Dr. Brenda DeRamus-Coleman said, “Our education community thrives on relationships. Relationships are so important, and she is going to be one to ensure that our relationships continue to build and continue to grow.”

Another important position was temporarily filled Tuesday night. A woman who has worked alongside CSFO Arthur Watts for the past five years has been named Interim Chief School Financial Officer. Pamela Watkins will start her duties on November 1, and she says she is excited to continue the progress Watts has made.

“I’m excited, I’m really excited and looking forward to it. Looking forward to continuing all of the policies, procedures and things that Mr. Watts has put into place in the last five years, so I’m very excited about the new role,” said MPS Interim CSFO Pamela Watkins.

The board must find a permanent replacement for the superintendent in the next 4 to 6 months. MPS’s Strategic Plan was also approved at tonight’s meeting.
