Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery joyfully celebrates 100 year anniversary

A Montgomery church brought hundreds of worshipers together to celebrate their 100 year anniversary with joyful music and fellowship on Sunday. Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church on East Washington Street invited past choir members to sing in their 100 Voice Anniversary Choir for the special occasion, and the theme of the celebration was “Celebrating 100 Years of God’s Abundant Grace.”

Pilgrim Rest has had a rich history since it’s founding in 1924, and the day was filled with praising The Lord and a spirit of thanksgiving. Church leaders also set an ambitious goal of raising $100,000 to support the ongoing mission of serving the community for generations to come.

Deacon Gilbert Baldwin said, “I’ve been a member for about 70 plus years. I’ve enjoyed the time that I’ve been here. We’ve had our ups, we’ve had our downs, but we are still together. And by being together where there’s unity, there’s always strength.”

“We are a community-based church, and you can come just as you are, you don’t have to dress up. Fix up whatever you have. Just come, and I can assure you that you will be treated kindly. You will be treated with dignity, and you won’t leave with your head down,” said Pastor Walter Ellis.

Pilgrim Rest’s Pastor Walter Ellis and Bishop Tyson Robinson from Decatur, Georgia both spoke at the service.
