Alabama National Fair celebrates another successful year

The Alabama National Fair got its start in 1954, and this year’s edition was another big success.

The fair lasted 11 days this year at Garrett Coliseum, running from October 4-14.

One of the changes this year was to have parking included in the price of the ticket, which took a lot of traffic off of the main roads with people having to pay in order to get in to park.

While the numbers are still coming in, it appears the number of fairgoers is up from last year.

“It’s been a tremendous success,” fair president Doug Singleton said. “We’ve had really good crowds. Couldn’t ask for better weather. Everybody’s come out and had a great time. Hopefully, we will be able to raise a lot of money to give back to our non-profits in Central Alabama.”

The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery puts on the fair as a fundraiser, with proceeds going back into the community, usually about $300,000 a year.

The planning for next year’s fair is a 365 day process, which is already underway.
