Daryl Bailey celebrates retirement as Montgomery County District Attorney
Retiring Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey was honored with a party on Monday as he leaves elected office.
Bailey became district attorney in 2014 upon the retirement of then-district attorney Ellen Brooks. Gov. Robert Bentley named him to the position. He was later elected and re-elected.
He spent nearly 30 years in the D.A.’s office overall. He started in 1994 working for free as a legal intern, running main, making coffee and helping the other attorneys.
Bailey says that being a prosecutor, some are probably happy to see him go, but he’s confident that he leaves the office better than when he came.
He will now begin a new journey in the administrative department of Faulkner University’s Jones School of Law, a personal and financial choice that has been four months in the making.
Action 8 News has reached out to the Office of Gov. Kay Ivey. We were told she is aware of his retirement and is prepared to name his replacement.
