Montgomery man charged in deadly double shooting

Montgomery police have arrested a man in connection to a deadly double shooting earlier this year.

According to court records obtained by Action 8 News, 19-year-old Marquet Caldwell is charged with the death of 16-year-old Rickey Ellis and injuring another 16-year-old male victim in a shooting on July 24.

Court records say Ellis and the other victim were sitting in his car when Caldwell attempted to commit theft of narcotics before shooting Ellis inside his vehicle with a 9mm pistol from the outside.

Court records also say Caldwell attempted to commit the crime of murder by shooting the other 16-year-old with the 9mm pistol by striking the victim several times. That victim survived the shooting.

Caldwell is charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder.

He is currently in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
