Diwali festival held outside Alabama Capitol
BAPS Hindu Mandir held its Diwali festival outside the Alabama Capitol on Thursday.
Diwali is an Indian festival of lights. It also includes several evenings of eating several foods and showcasing traditional colorful Diwali displays.
The festival represents light over dark, good over evil and is the most widely celebrated festival around the world.
“The nice part about Diwali is, being Indian living in Alabama, one of the greatest things that we could do is be able to celebrate Diwali here on our own state capitol lawn. I think that is awesome, and what it also really shows is that regardless of your background, being in this beautiful country and state we’re allowed to practice whatever religion we please. That’s one of the most beautiful things about being able to celebrate Diwali here at the state capitol,” Krishna Sanghani of BAPS Hindu Mandir told Action 8 News.
This is the second year that Diwali has been celebrated at the Alabama Capitol.
The festival is celebrated for five days in late October and early November.
