Goose Crowder may be out for season; Parker talks Troy backups

Troy football comes off a game on Tuesday, giving the Trojans extra time to recover from their loss to South Alabama. However, it may not be enough for starting quarterback Goose Crowder to return this Saturday.

It’s possible Crowder could miss the entire season.

“I would say there’s a possibility,” Troy head coach Gerad Parker said. “It’s still in question on Goose’s future for the season.”

Crowder left the game versus ULM on Sept. 28 with an “upper body” injury and hasn’t returned since.

As the Trojans (1-6, 0-3 Sun Belt) prepare to hit the road to take on Arkansas State (4-3, 2-1 Sun Belt), Parker said he plans to play both backup quarterbacks: Tucker Kilcrease and Matthew Caldwell.

“We played three quarterbacks over 130 snaps this year,” Parker said. “As much as it’s good for everybody to play and get out there, it’s certainly not the best for you as an offense to play three different quarterbacks to that amount. Both are growing. Both have shown flashes of improvement and high play. Unfortunately, both have certainly shown times in which we’ve got to grow and get better.”
