Man dies in fiery crash in Opelika

A man has been killed in a fiery one-vehicle crash in Opelika.

Police say they were called to the 3200 block of Lafayette Parkway at around 11:55 last night. That’s where they found the vehicle that they say was fully engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was put out, with the help of the Opelika Fire Department, they found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 44 years old, but police haven’t released his name.

Police say it appears the man was driving north on Lafayette Parkway when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

The crash remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit.
