The group held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new space Monday morning.

“We’re starting here but this is just the beginning. We are going to be doing great things here in the city of Selma, for Selma and its residents, as well as the tourists who come, just take a picture on the bridge, we’re going to make sure we get them throughout Selma to not only learn the history, but to leave something,” said CEO Kimberly Smitherman.

The organization has plans to start construction of the Foot Soldiers Park and Education Center in 2025.
