Mayor, interim police chief give update on Montgomery crime statistics
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and the city’s interim Police Chief Jim Graboys have provided an update on this year’s crimes statistics.
At a news conference yesterday, Graboys said the department is working to solve homicide cases. Arrests have been made in two-thirds of cases. While there have been three homicides in the past week in Montgomery, overall the numbers are down, according to the statistics.
“One of the things that we have noticed about these cases is that they are dealing with people who know each other,” Graboys said. “…dealing with people who may have situations maybe you get the call at beefs or arguments with each other. These are not random.”
He says recruiting has also improved, with the department expecting to have one of its largest police academy classes soon.
