East Montgomery and Pike Road residents upset over proposed rezoning of property
Residents of East Montgomery and Pike Road are upset over a proposed rezoning of property that could cause an uproar in their quiet area.
The Montgomery City Council will soon take up a proposed rezoning of property in the Montgomery city limits that could bring a new shopping center to the corner of Ray Thorington Road and Pike Road. Residents say it could potentially bring even more traffic to the 3,000+ home area and they are afraid this potential business area might also bring crime right to their front door.
This isn’t the first time this has been brought up. Developers of the property presented the proposal before the planning commission in September, but the commission denied the request based on it not having support from the community, safety and crime issues, emergency response time and traffic issues. According to city officials, a developer can appeal to the city council if the vote doesn’t go their way.
The next City Council meeting is Tuesday, November 5 at 2 p.m.
Action 8 News reached out to District 8 City Councilman Glen Pruitt for comments, but we have yet to hear back.
