Action 8 News has confirmed that Gov. Kay Ivey received medical treatment after an appearance at a campaign event in Pike Road Sunday evening.

Gina Maiola, the communications director for the governor, said that Ivey had been campaigning for Caroleene Dobson at SweetCreek Farm Market when she became dehydrated.

Action 8 News video of Ivey showed that she appeared to be shaky as she held onto a railing before someone got her a chair and called an ambulance.

Maiola said Ivey received fluids and was evaluated on site out of precaution. Maiola said Ivey immediately felt better and is at home doing well this evening.

Ivey, who is 80 years old, was diagnosed and treated for lung cancer in 2019. She has been governor since 2017, and has served as lt. governor and state treasurer.

Dobson is the Republican nominee for the District 2 U.S. House seat.
