Ainsworth launches Alabama Aerospace and Defense Council

Alabama now has a new Aerospace and Defense Council.

Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth made that announcement at a news conference today in Montgomery.

The Alabama Aerospace and Defense Council is designed to push for policies that encourage the growth of Alabama’s aerospace and defense industry. It will support job creation and economic impact.

“I can tell you one of the first things that I’m going to encourage this council to do is to push hard to get Space Command back to Alabama,” Ainsworth told Action 8 News. “I think that was one of the worst things that I saw in politics. You had three different independent reports that listed Alabama first. We should’ve got it. Because of politics, I think it went to another state. I’m hopeful with the new administration that it will come back to Alabama and I certainly want to make sure this council is helping push to get Space Command back to his rightful place, which is in Alabama.”

The Air Force recommended that Space Command be in Huntsville. But President Biden said last year that it should stay in Colorado.

Ainsworth is a former national president of the Aerospace States Association.
