UA students participate in Selma Beautification Day

Waka Uaselma1108 VoDozens of students from the University of Alabama were in the Queen City on Friday for Selma Beautification Day.

The event is a community service project for students involved in the UA’s — Selma Resilience Initiative.

The societal impact initiative — aims to help revitalize Selma — through economic development — and community advancement.

Students constructed and installed several small community gardens along Broad Street — and picked up trash in the area.

Waka Uaselma1108 Vo1“A part of our university’s mission is to uplift every corner of the state of Alabama. And to get our students involved with the community surrounding them. Teaching that civic engagement, community impact,” said SRI Community Outreach Coordinator Preston McGee.

The Selma Resilience Initiative — brings resources and expertise from the University of Alabama — into the Selma community.
