ACTION 8 UPDATE: Arrest made in Tuskegee University shooting that left 1 dead, 16 injured

The State Bureau of Investigations says an arrest has been made in a shooting on Tuskegee University’s campus that left one person dead and

16 others injured Sunday morning.

Officers located 25-year-old Jaquez Myrick, of Montgomery, Sunday. SBI says Myrick was in possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device.

Authorities say Myrick was found leaving the scene of the shooting. Myrick is charged federally with Possession of a Machine Gun.

SBI says the victim who died is an 18-year-old juvenile. Officials have not released their identity.

SBI says 12 people were injured by gunfire and transported to area hospitals in Montgomery and Opelika.

Four other individuals sustained injuries that were not related to gunfire over the course of the incident.

Tuskegee University has announced that all classes on Monday, Nov. 11, will be cancelled as law enforcement continues to process the scene. University grief counselors will be available for students in the chapel on Monday.

One person is dead and several others have been injured following a shooting on the campus of Tuskegee University.

University spokesperson Thonnia Lee tells Action 8 News that the shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.

The identity of the victim was not made available, but Lee said the person was not associated with the university. Lee said the parents of the victim have been notified.

Several others, including Tuskegee University students, were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.

Lee said emergency responders, along with campus and local law enforcement have secured the scene. The State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the shooting. SBI says at this time, no arrests have been made.

Tuskegee University was celebrating its 100th homecoming this weekend taking on Miles College.
