A Montgomery County resident is facing charges after a chase that ended with a crash and a standoff.

ALEA says at about 4:40PM Monday, a state trooper tried to stop the driver of a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 231 near County Road 7707 in Pike County. They say the driver didn’t stop, and led state troopers on a chase.

Investigators say the chase ended when the truck crashed on Alabama Highway 94 in Montgomery County. After that, ALEA says a standoff took place between the driver and law enforcement.

The  driver was later identified as 47-year-old Maxi Evans of Ramer.

Evans, who they say was armed with a handgun, fired at law enforcement. No officers were struck or injured. Through intentional and deliberate negotiations, ALEA said it was able to resolve the standoff and arrest Evans without incident.

Evans was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Evans is facing a  charge of attempting to elude, with additional pending firearm charges, and will be booked into the Pike County Jail.

Special Agents with ALEA State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI), SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Unit, along with deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, all responded to the scene to  assist.
